HASTELLOY and Exotic Alloys

When stainless is not enough. HASTELLOY C-276 is to nickel alloys what A105 is to carbon (HASTELLOY is a registered trademark of Haynes International; subsequent references on this page use the conventional mixed-case form for readability). Plus Inconel, Incoloy, Monel, duplex, and titanium for specific corrosion environments. The metallurgical depth that the most aggressive service applications demand.

Hastelloy C-276 (UNS N10276)

High-molybdenum nickel-chromium with tungsten. The benchmark corrosion-resistant alloy. Outstanding resistance to wet chlorine, hot contaminated mineral acids, organic and inorganic chlorides, formic and acetic acids, sea water, hypochlorite, and chlorine dioxide. Common applications: chemical process organic chlorides, pulp and paper bleach plant, flue gas desulfurization scrubbers, pharmaceutical process, food processing.

Hastelloy C-22 (UNS N06022)

Higher chromium than C-276 with broader pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN). Outstanding resistance to oxidizing acids including nitric. Used where C-276 falls short on oxidizing chemistry.

Hastelloy B-2 (UNS N10665)

High molybdenum without chromium. Specifically engineered for reducing service in hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid at all concentrations. Cannot tolerate oxidizing conditions or chloride pitting environments where chromium-bearing alloys would be required.

Inconel 625 and 718

Nickel-chromium-molybdenum with niobium. Wide corrosion resistance plus high-temperature strength. 625 covers FGD, seawater, and ammonia processing. 718 is the precipitation-hardened variant for high-pressure HPHT wellhead service in oil and gas.

Inconel 600, 601, 825

600 for high-temperature furnace and heat treating service. 601 with aluminum addition for extreme oxidation resistance. 825 with copper addition for sulfuric and phosphoric acid service.

Incoloy 800 / 800H / 800HT

Iron-nickel-chromium with stronger high-temperature creep resistance than the F347 stainless it sometimes replaces. 800H and 800HT with controlled chemistry for ASME Code Section VIII pressure service to 1500 degrees F.

Monel 400

Nickel-copper alloy. Seawater and marine service, hydrofluoric acid handling, brine systems. Galls easily; mating bolted joints need anti-seize on threads and careful torque control.

Duplex 2205 and Super Duplex 2507

Two-phase ferritic-austenitic stainless. Higher yield than F316L plus better chloride pitting resistance. 2205 covers most chloride service. 2507 super duplex covers severe chloride and offshore applications. Two service ceilings apply to both grades: sustained service is capped at 600 degrees F (315 degrees C) because of 475-degree-C alpha-prime embrittlement of the ferrite phase, and the practical chloride stress-corrosion cracking limit is approximately 250 degrees F for 2205 and 300 degrees F for 2507. Above either limit, a nickel-based alloy is the qualified product.

Titanium Grade 2 and Grade 12

Commercially pure titanium with excellent seawater, oxidizing acid, and chloride resistance. Grade 12 (small palladium addition) extends crevice corrosion resistance at higher temperatures. Bleach plant, desalination, and chemical process applications.
